Join us as we celebrate the Art of the Drum at the Harvest Share Festival on 17 September in Madam CJ Walker Park. Moyo is honored to host a series of drumming workshops that will take participants from the sounds of West Africa to Latin America as we trace the roots of modern rhythms in America.
Workshops are free and open to the public, and drums are available to borrow if you don’t have your own.

Get ready to swirl and twirl! This Specialty AfroCuban Dance Workshop is dedicated to the Yoruba Oricha Yemaya, The Divine Universal Mother of All & Deity of the Sea. From the shallow waters of the ocean to the deep, dark, tumultuous depths of the sea, we will flow through 4-cycles of Yemaya’s dance as it’s done in a traditional folkloric format from beginning to end. The Soul Sunday Project is designed to create a space for fellowship and support amongst young adults in order to foster healthy habits, relationships, resilience, healing, and joy. Join Moyo Nguvu for three creative writing and journaling workshops led by Novuyo Masakhane, MFA. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the exhibits at the Denver Art Museum to facilitate their writing, with the objective to develop sustainable self-care practices while addressing any unresolved grief that many individuals hold as a result of COVID-19, and recent community traumas. Day Two: November 13, 5 - 7pm; The event culminates with a community celebration that includes music, food, and dance. Food will be catered by Fritay Haitian Cuisine. RSVP for the celebration.

Capoeira Angola is the traditional martial art form brought by Africans to Brazil and used by Afro Brazilians to free themselves from bondage during colonial times. In this upcoming workshop, the students will be introduced to all the different elements of Capoeira and will be able to draw parallels between Capoeira and breakdancing embodied expressions and history. This art form combines dance, martial arts, music and philosophy. Register at School of Breaking
Day One: November 11, 1 - 4pm; Begins with a drum workshop followed by a dance session. Please wear white clothing appropriate for dance, yoga or fitness and bring water for hydration. Dancing will be done barefoot and ladies are asked to bring a folkloric style long skirt. Drummers please bring your own drums (Moyo has limited drums available to borrow); Congas are preferred. Day Two: November 13, 2 - 4:30pm; Drum & Dance Workshops
In honor of Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, which is celebrated from September 15th through October 15, School of Breaking is partnering with Moyo Arts to host an Afro Latin Drumming workshop. Hip-Hop culture was created through the contributions of African and Latinx American youth. Breaking has been influenced by the sounds and rhythms of Latin music. In this workshop participants will learn how to create those rhythms. Following the workshop, there will be a 1-hour drumming cypher (with professional drummers) for participants to dance.

This Community Workshop is FREE for participants through a partnership with Moyo Arts and Rose Community Foundation.

Our cast will also feature Brazilian dancers Luciana Da Silva, Marianna Lutterbach, Weslei Guimaraes, Lorin Hansen and many other talented dancers.

Come to learn or improve your skills on Forró dancing.
This popular partner dance from the Northeast of Brazil is a fun and easy to learn. You DO NOT need a partner but come ready to learn how to be a leader or a follower.
Weslei Guimarães was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro and has over 15 years of experience teaching Forró.
His style is very gentle with focus on connection among dancers.
